Making Positive Change

Community engagement matters because real change happens when people show up, speak up, and work together for the future of their communities. The efforts of the Save South Muskoka Hospital Committee are a strong example of how local voices can help shape important decisions that affect families, healthcare access, and the long-term well-being of the region. When communities come together with a shared purpose, they send a clear message to decision-makers that local hospital healthcare matters.

Residents are encouraged to attend the upcoming Public Meeting on May 23 at 10:00 a.m. at the Norwood Theatre in Bracebridge.

Public participation is an important part of ensuring the healthcare needs and concerns of South Muskoka are heard.  Even small acts of engagement can help build momentum for positive and lasting change.

Visit www.ssmh.ca/events for more information.  Please plan to attend.  Tell your friends, family and neighbours, too!

The Latest from the Lifeline:

MAHC's Promises are NOT in the Plans!

We have prepared the below table which identifies concerning gaps between MAHC's public promises and the actual MAHC studies and plans!

The SSMH Committee has obtained the Stage 1.3 Functional program that MAHC submitted to the province as well as various land studies concerning 300 Pine Street through FOI requests.  Copies of the FOI materials are available on the SSMHC website - www.ssmh.ca/foi

Urgent Appeal for Transparency from MAHC and Decision-Makers

The Save South Muskoka Hospital Committee continues to advocate for transparency and accountability.  Recent efforts have included obtaining key Freedom of Information materials from Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC).  Based on this information, we submitted detailed questions to MAHC, the Town of Bracebridge (including Mayor and Council) and Ontario Ministry of Health about decision-making, planning assumptions, and community impacts.  Many of these questions pertain to the concerning "gaps" identified between public promises and the actual plans submitted to the province - as set out in the chart above.

Although the Committee has received an acknowledgement,  MAHC has failed or refused to directly engage the Committee on its detailed questions.   We have also had silence from the Town of Bracebridge on our questions.

The Committee remains committed to keeping the community informed and continuing constructive advocacy on behalf of South Muskoka residents.

More information on the "Urgent Appeal for Transparency" will be made available at the Public Meeting on May 23.  To learn more, you can review the detailed questions to MAHC and Decision-Makers on our website.

More Visits and Longer Processing Time at Overwhelmed South Muskoka ER - Act Now!

South Muskoka Memorial Hospital’s ER is slammed with nearly 2/3 of all Muskoka Paramedic visits in 2025 - far busier than the Huntsville site.

This is stretching our paramedics to the limit, even as they heroically met 2025 response times.

This report to the District Council proves we must fight to protect and expand South Muskoka healthcare before it’s too late!

Drop in to learn more at our public meeting on Saturday, May 23 at 10 am, at the Norwood Theatre!

Municipal Election Watch 2026

Municipal elections are happening this October!  Now is the time to ask questions of local candidates about their stance on MAHC's "Made in Muskoka" healthcare model.  The quarry pit, the reduction in beds, the closure of the OB unit, local physician discontent - why are our Town and District Councils not saying and doing more?

The District agreed to fund $76M of our local tax dollars - the largest project in the District's history - to support MAHC's plan based on promises that are not in the official submission to the province.

Watch this space as the Save South Muskoka Hospital Committee tracks local candidates' position on the critical hospital redevelopment issues.
