About Us

Who We Are

The Save South Muskoka Hospital Committee (SSMHC) is a grassroots group of volunteers that was formed in response to the redevelopment proposal put forth by Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) in January 2024.

Our group is deeply concerned about the reduction in vital services being proposed for South Muskoka Memorial Hospital and was formed to bring together community members to take all necessary steps to protect the hospital from a significant reduction in services. As of May 8, 2024, we are officially a registered not-for-profit corporation.

The SSMHC is comprised of a diverse group of healthcare professionals, civic leaders, business executives and other professionals from the community. Committee Members sit on the Executive Board, as Members-at-Large or as Advisors. Advisors to SSMHC include physicians, nurses, paramedics, occupational therapists, social workers and hospital administrators with combined decades of healthcare experience. Committee Members are volunteers who provide service based on availability and commitment.

As of July 2024, the SSMHC created a Community Membership status available to residents who are aligned on our stated purpose. Terms and conditions apply. As of September 2024, we have >200 committee and community members from across Muskoka and we continue to grow.

Keep the Promise!”

The SSMHC tagline, “Keep the Promise!” refers to the commitments made by the District of Muskoka, the Town of Huntsville, the Town of Bracebridge, and from MAHC to the people of Muskoka to pursue the strategy for equitable and accessible healthcare at two acute care hospital sites in Muskoka.
