Future South Muskoka Hospital Expansion?
From the Stantec report: If the South Muskoka hospital site needs to expand, the new hospital will be built inside the quarry pit! This will require “some grading work”…

This is not Care Close to Home that is needed in Muskoka. We live in a large dispersed area that already requires extensive travel. This model makes this much worse for the future.
I live in Gravenhurst. It takes me at least 35 minutes to get to SMMH and one hour to Huntsville. That assumes no snowstorms and poor driving conditions.
This model will require someone with serious illness in south Muskoka to be transferred to Huntsville making family visitation and support of family doctors much more difficult. And it will require people from Huntsville and places like Sunridge in the north to drive right by a new 121 bed hospital and travel an hour for virtually all diagnostics and surgeries. THIS IS NOT PATIENT CENTERED HEALTH CARE IN ANY WAY!
To spend $ 1 billion on a model so obviously flawed makes no sense whatsoever. It should be rejected by The Ministry of Health and returned to MAHC with direction to develop a two hospital model that provides Care Close to Home as recommended by virtually all of our South Muskoka physicians.
